On April 18, 2007, TES˛ President/Founder Tim Sendelbach provided the keynote address during the opening ceremonies of the 2007 Fire Department Instructors Conference. An audience of more than 3000 fire service professionals representing fire departments throughout the U.S., Canada, and several overseas departments were in attendance for this historic event. The 2007 Fire Department Instructors Conference marked the official homecoming of the International Society of Fire Service Instructors after an eleven-year absence.
Chief Sendelbach, representing the International Society of Fire Service Instructors (ISFSI) presented the address titled: Going Beyond the Status Quo. In his address, three critical points were presented: Influence, Motivation, and Passion. In addition to these three points, Chief Sendelbach also provided five (5) critical steps for Fire Chiefs on how to instill change within their respective organizations:
Step 1. Put the Right People in Training
Step 2. Produce Quality Recruits
Step 3. Promote the Right People
Step 4. Demand Higher Education for All Ranks
Step 5. Develop a Succession Plan.

This address was dedicated to the memory of Captain Gary Boyert of the Kansas City, Kansas Fire Department. Chief Sendelbach formerly served with Captain Boyert who died in the line of duty in 2003.
