Chief
Ray began his fire service career in 1984 as a volunteer fire
explorer with the Pleasant View Volunteer Fire Department.
He currently serves both career and volunteer agencies and
is active with, local, state, and national organizations.
Shane worked through the ranks of career and volunteer organizations
serving as firefighter, engineer, lieutenant, captain, training
officer, shift commander, deputy chief, and chief. Shane currently
serves as Chief of the Pleasant View, Tennessee Volunteer
Fire Department and Lieutenant with the Brentwood, Tennessee
Fire Department.
Chief
Ray received a Bachelor of Science in Fire Protection Administration
from Eastern Kentucky University and a Minor in Political
Science. He has used his education in both fields by making
changes in local situations through award winning planning
and leadership. Chief Ray is an advocate for political representation
of the fire service. Shane also serves as the Mayor of the
Town of Pleasant View and represents the fire service politically
to state organizations. Shane chooses to lead by action, service
and involvement. Shane is a visionary leader who understands
that the key to taking the fire service to the next level
is to become involved in government and community activities.
Shane also serves as a fire service instructor in Tennessee
and teaches for fire departments across the state as well
as an instructor for the Tennessee Emergency Management Agency.
Shane began teaching at the National Fire Academy in Emmitsburg,
Maryland in 2001. Shane is also a member of the Executive
Fire Officer Program at the National Fire Academy, beginning
the 4-year program in the Spring of 2002. Shane realizes the
importance of training and has worked his entire career to
enhance his own training while exchanging it with others.
Shane
chooses to take a proactive approach to his fire service profession,
and his department is a reflection of that approach. The Town
of Pleasant View passed a very progressive Sprinkler Ordinance
in 2001 that requires all commercial and multi-family units
to install fire suppression sprinkler systems. In the Fall
of 2002, the ordinance was amended to include residential
homes, phasing this aspect in over a two year period. The
proactive stand on fire protection will be a major life safety
marketing point for the Pleasant View Volunteer Fire Department. |
